Slice 29: But Mommy, I’m Still Sleepy

Mommy!

Mommy!

Mommy, I have to go potty!

Mommy?

Quickly, her urgency and volume increases. As I open her door, she pops up in bed.

Mommy, I have to go potty real bad.

K darts off to the bathroom as I trail behind her. It’s 6:30 and actually a decent wake up time for my early riser, so I’ll take it.

Mommy, I’m still sleepy.

Yes, but you’re going to school today so let’s get ready.

But Mommy, I’m still sleepy.

Ok, why don’t you rest for a little bit while Mommy gets ready?

That sounds like a good idea.

K goes to grab her beloved Bah-Bah and blankies to snuggle up in my bed for a few as I get ready.

Alright, K. Let’s go downstairs and do your hair.

But Mommy, I’m still sleepy.

At this point, I know she’s not. She’s stalling. A new fave strategy to avoid things she doesn’t like, such as Mommy doing her hair for school.

Come on, your friends and teachers are waiting for you. Let’s get moving, K.

But Mommy, I’m still sleepy…

  1. Oh, yes. They learn these kind of strategies early. Wouldn’t it be nice if our students were so quick learners? Cute post. Savor the moments. They fly by!

  2. Way to stick to getting her up! I had some parents of students who would bring them in an hour or so late because the child needed to keep sleeping..!? Maybe they should go to bed earlier or not have been up late playing on their iPad. Hope K had a good day at school!
