School days are like bookends
On one side, the early morning rush
And on the other, an attempt to successfully navigate bedtime.
School days are like bookends
Some days the books are neatly placed on the shelve
Held in place by the sturdy structures.
School days are like bookends
Other days the books are falling off the shelve
Or have even dropped to the floor.
School days are like bookends
Starting with kisses and hugs goodbye
And ending with kisses and hugs goodnight.
School days are like bookends
Without a successful beginning and ending
Everything between stands to fall apart.
School days are like bookends
These two predictable and strong pieces hold everything together
Including me.
I love the repetition in here and the comparison of the beginning and ending of the days. You are so right. There are a million ways those two bookends can keep everything together or let it all fall apart!

This is such a great way to describe each day, a series of bookends. I enjoyed reading this, especially being at a Friday, the end of the week, bookend.

I’m exploring so many of those bookends in my writing this month. Thank you so much for conceptualizing our lived lives in the form of bookends representative of school days. Amazing Slice!

Loved this piece and the repetition, your through line, which I name often as important for multilingual writers especially. I hopped into this piece because I wrote a Slice recently called baby bookends, so my curiosity was piqued. Lovely poem, thanks so much for sharing. Super sweet exploration
